The Shortgrass Honor Band auditions are going to be held in Cordell on December 8. The auditions will begin at 9:30 a.m. and there will be a directors meeting at 8:45 a.m. in the Cordell High School Library. Please plan to have all the directors on your staff at the auditions. It will take all of us to cover every audition room. We are also asking you to bring a parent sponsor to the auditions to help look after the kids while on the Cordell campus.

I hope you all have had a nice break and are ready to hit the ground running for contest and honor band season. The Shortgrass Honor Band Clinic will be held in the Elk City Pioneer Center on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14. Seating begins on Friday at 8:30 a.m. and rehearsal begins at 9:00 a.m. The High School Band, directed by Dr. Terry Segress, will be on the Pioneer Center Stage. The Junior High band, under the direction of Rob Anderson, will be in the Pioneer Center Band Room.

I would like to thank everyone for their hard work at the auditions on Saturday. Overall with all the changes I felt like things went smoothly. The dates for the clinic are January 13 and 14 at the Elk City Pioneer Center. A schedule of the clinic is in each student folder and one is also available on the website under the Clinic tab. The Cordell staff found a cell phone after the auditions on Saturday. If you had a student who lost a phone contact us using the "Contact" tab on the Home page of the site.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday. The judging assignments are now posted on the Shortgrass web site (shortgrasshonorband.com). Look in the Auditions tab and click on Judging assignments. For you to view this page you must be logged in as a member. If there is someone on the list that is NOT going to be there Saturday we need to know. If you have not been assigned to judge we will use you as needed. The directors meeting is at 9:00 a.m. in the Cordell High School Library. Auditions begin at 9:30.

The PDF files for "All Instruments" and "Clarinet in Bb" have been updated. The clarinet part had been written one octave too high and should now be correct. Please let us know if you see anything else you think could be an error.

It has just been brought to my attention that the H.S. Clarinet Chromatic Scale is incorrect on the website. I will try to get it fixed ASAP. In the meantime the HS Trumpet chromatic scale is correct. Give your H.S. clarinet players a copy of the trumpet chromatic until we can get the issue fixed on the website. I apologise for the mistake and oversite. If you see anything else that needs attention, please contact us as soon as you notice it.
